ARRIVING
You have to fly into Porto.
There is no need to travel to central Porto. However, if you are there, you can catch an urban train to Guimarães from Porto – São Bento or Porto – Campanha stations (3.25 €, 70 minutes). For timetable and ticket purchasing:

There is a direct bus service from Porto airport itself to Guimarães (Get Bus company, 8 €, 50 minutes). The bus departs from outside of the terminal building at Stop A. Tickets can be purchased from the driver by cash. For timetable and ticket purchasing:

A taxi/Uber from the airport to Guimarães may cost around 80 €.
If you plan to go by car from the airport, take highway A41 (Maia) for about 10 km and then take highway A3 (Braga) for about 35 km. Finally, take highway A7 (Guimarães) for the remainder of the journey. Highway tolls are in place, including electronic-only tolls. Travel time: 40 minutes.
